The 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) took place in Bonn in 2017, where transport was prominently featured through a series of events hosted by the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA). The vision of the Paris Agreement will continue to guide the development of the next two conferences till 2020 and there is now a greater sense of urgency to complete the work programme under the Paris Agreement.
For the first time since the creation of the ITF MRTs on transport and climate change, key outcomes from the Roundtable discussion this year could serve as an input to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) dialogue in preparation for COP24. This Roundtable serves as a platform for transport Ministers to present and discuss existing mitigation measures, actions and progress on reducing transport carbon emissions with leaders in the private sector and international organisations.
