The increased number of road fatalities and the need to enhance road safety is a common challenge for both Northern and Southern Euro-Mediterranean countries. Despite the launch of some important initiatives in recent years, there is still room for collective efforts and more joint actions to be undertaken in order to effectively address this situation. The UfMS Side Event “Towards Ensuring Road Safety in the Euro-Mediterranean Region” organized by the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat in cooperation with ITF and the UN Secretary General Special Envoy for Road Safety, will bring together government officials, key partner organisations and financial institutions, as well as experts from the public and private sectors.
It shall aim at raising awareness and exchanging best practices on road safety issues in the Euro-Mediterranean region, providing innovative solutions to the current challenges facing this vital sector, and discussing concrete projects on curbing road fatalities and fostering road safety. The UfMS Side Event will also aim at increasing synergies and cooperation between UfM Member States and key regional and international actors with a view to fostering safe, sustainable and efficient mobility.
