Laura Ponto

Laura Ponto is Counsel at Hogan Lovells, LLP. She is a leader in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drone) industry, providing thoughtful solutions to the unique business, policy, and regulatory challenges presented by rapidly evolving technology in a traditional regulatory framework. Laura has deep experience in both the public and private sectors that encompasses virtually all aspects of aviation. Most recently, she served as Head of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs for Google X's Project Wing, which is developing and manufactured delivery drones and an air traffic management platform that leverages Google infrastructure to facilitate the safe operation of drones. She began her career in the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Office of General Counsel, where she worked across modes of transportation, but focused on automotive and aviation safety. She represented the DOT, Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in key litigation and enforcement actions. Laura then spent more than a decade in the FAA Office of Chief Counsel. She advised the White House, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives on issues related to transportation policy, safety, and security. She also served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, addressing some of the most challenging policy issues in transportation today.
