Ralf Nagel

CEO, German Shipowners’ Association

Minister (ret.) Ralf Nagel is CEO of the German Shipowners’ Association in Hamburg since February 2010. Before he became top representative of the interests of German shipping companies at the national and international level, he served as Senator (Minister) for Economics and Ports, as well as Senator for Justice and the Constitution of the Federal State of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Ralf Nagel started his carrier in 1985 working as a scientific assistant to Gunter Huonker, Member of the German Parliament and former State Minister with Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance. After holding a succession of senior administrative positions at Federal State level, he became State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Housing in the government of Chancellor Schröder in 2000. Before he became Senator in Bremen, he expanded his expertise as shareholder and Member of the Managing Board of the business consultancy PUTZ & PARTNER in Hamburg. Ralf Nagel has a Master’s Degree in political science, sociology and psychology awarded from the University of Heidelberg.
